Assignment 3b
What Desktop_user_1 did: The user first clicked Library and then Video. Next, she scanned the page for the video “Milanese Lace” by Louise Colgan. The user stated there are two videos listed under this title and with the same creator. After studying further, the user found they are the same video but in two different formats. What Desktop_user_1 didn’t do: Desktop_user_1 found the video right away without problem, so I have nothing to report here. |
What Mobile_user_1 did: This user started by clicking the Library link, then clicked Videos. He didn’t see the video requested so he returned to the homepage. After voicing some confusion, the objective was restated and the user tried the Video link on the Library page once more. He was able to find the duration of the “Milanese Lace” video. What Mobile_user_1 didn’t do: Mobile_user_1 started off correctly but did not take the time to look at each of the videos available and missed the duration the first time. |
What Desktop_user_1 did: Desktop_user_1 first clicked Member’s Galleries and then Earring Patterns. She then studied the page for a bit because there was no indication of what each pattern shown was called. She started clicking each pattern image until she found the correct one. She initially did not notice the title of the pattern on the pattern page, so she passed by the correct pattern once before realizing where the title was after viewing the 4th one and starting over. What Desktop_user_1 didn’t do: Again, Desktop_user_1 completed the objective without issue until the end when searching for the correct pattern. The user did not look for the title of each pattern on their respective pages. |
What Mobile_user_1 did: Mobile_user_1 started with the Library page and then tried Books: Other Laces without success. Next, he tried Books: Other Topics, then Slides, then Videos all on the Library page without finding the pattern. The user went back to the homepage and then clicked Member’s Galleries and then Earring Patterns. He clicked 3 images of earrings before finding the correct pattern. What Mobile_user_1 didn’t do: Mobile_user_1 did not consider that the earring patterns were submitted by members so he did not check the Member’s Galleries first. |
What Desktop_user_1 did: Desktop_user_1 clicked on Membership and clicked the hyperlinked words “Membership Form” to download. What Desktop_user_1 didn’t do: The user completed the objective as expected. |

What Desktop_user_1 did: This user first clicked on Chartering but didn’t find the form requested. She went back to the homepage and clicked on Membership and was able to find the link to the Correction Form – Send Electronically. What Desktop_user_1 didn’t do: Desktop_user_1 didn’t observe what other forms were on the Membership page when she was searching for the Membership Form. She also didn’t consider that the Correction Form was likely used for member information. |
What Mobile_user_1 did: Mobile_user_1 started at the Contact Us page but did not find the form, so he went back to the homepage. Next, he went to the About Us page but didn’t see the form there either. Starting at the homepage again, this user tried Membership next and found the Correction Form – Send Electronically link. What Mobile_user_1 didn’t do: Mobile_user_1 did not think about how the Correction Form was likely for member information so he did not start at the Membership link. |
What Desktop_user_1 did: Desktop_user_1 clicked on Charter Chapters and scrolled down until she found the region that included California. The user counted 9 chapters in California. What Desktop_user_1 didn’t do: The user did not click the interactive map at the top of the page to skip to the USA Southwest Region chapters. |
What Mobile_user_1 did: Mobile_user_1 clicked Charter Chapters, then clicked on the Southwest USA section of the map. User counted 9 chapters in California. What Mobile_user_1 didn’t do: Mobile_user_1 completed the task as expected but they also could have scrolled to find the correct region. |
What Desktop_user_1 did: Desktop_user_1 first clicked the 2018 IOLI Convention link but did not find the event. She then went back to the homepage and clicked the Conventions link. She still did not find the event so went back to the homepage and clicked on Calendars. She was able to navigate the calendar to get to November 3rd and find that the event was held in Moline, IL. What Desktop_user_1 didn’t do: The user did not take time to look at all the links on the homepage to see that there was a Calendar page available that likely had events not related to the Convention. |
What Mobile_user_1 did: Mobile_user_1 first clicked the 2018 IOLI Convention link but didn’t find information for November 3rd. He went back to the homepage and tried the Conventions link next. Still not finding the event, the user went back to the homepage and clicked Lace Supply, Venders, and then finally Calendars. In the Calendars link, the user found the event on November 3rd and that it was located in Moline, IL. What Mobile_user_1 didn’t do: Mobile_user_1 didn’t take time to view all the options that were available on the homepage to find the link that best fit the task. |
What Desktop_user_1 did: This user clicked on Proficiency Program link and then clicked Proficiency Program General Information. The user did not find the information there, so she went back to the Proficiency Program page and after a moment, clicked IOLI Proficiency Program for Lacemaking which had the correct information. What Desktop_user_1 didn’t do: If the users read the text on the page, it is possible that they would have realized that the journals were necessary for the Proficiency program and clicked that link with the guidelines for the program. |

The information needed was not there so he went back to the Proficiency Program page and clicked IOLI Proficiency Program for Lacemaking and was able to find the cost per journal.
